Creative fusion. Displayed.
Working on it for many months now, the day has come to present my profile and portfolio to you. As I've said before, looking back on my life, I've been singing since I was very young. Under the influence of my brother, José Luis, I dedicated myself to paying attention to what I later understood as music. Watching him play the guitar with his neighborhood friends, listening to his serenades every May 10th, I lost myself in a world full of notes, chords, and verses.
In elementary school, I exposed myself for the first time. At an assembly, I sang "El Corrido del Norte," a creation by Pepe Guizar, performed by the Zaizar Brothers. I really liked that song and practiced it until I learned it completely.
It was in the 1960s and 1970s that I learned to appreciate a wide variety of genres. My mom and dad liked traditional music: rancheras and norteñas. To my brothers and sisters, all the others: rock, ballads, boleros, and cumbias.
For that reason, I believe, when I started writing songs, it was easy for me to arrange the melody in the appropriate genre. The other reason it was easy for me was understanding math. This, like knowing pitches and chords, made it easier to put together songs and music even though I didn't yet have a formal musical education.
Years later, in high school, I learned to play the trumpet, and it was there that I learned to read and write music. Today, I confess, after many years of practice, it's easy for me to hear a story or tale and turn it into a song. So, that's how I got here, and now with the creation of this page, I'll be able to share with you the stories behind the songs... some of them mine, others by famous composers and performers. Welcome!
